Moral divergence

What does it mean to be a good person? Lawrence Auster argues that conservatives recognise a good higher than man and can therefore treat this good as real and worthy even if men can’t always live up to its standards. Liberals see nothing higher than man and so, if individuals or a society claim to hold to a moral good but don’t live up to it, assume that the traditional good itself is fake - that it is a lie to be discarded.
