Very well written arugement. I think you seem to be trying to shift the blame from Anglo-Australians, as you call them, but you've picked 2 examples of attacks by others and tried to paint a picture that doesnt really fit. There have been numerous attacks, picking two and generalising based on this is pretty weak.

One thing that pensioners spend a lot of money on is a companion animal - and veterinary costs can be enormous. A companion animal is almost essential if one lives alone and possibly has no family living nearby. In a few cases, the pensioner has a disability for which they rely on the aid of an Assistance Dog. Assistance Dogs attract a tax deduction if the person is in the workforce. There are proven health benefits for those who live with a companion animal - particularly for the elderly.

It's Scientology! Someone from the cult is working in Channel 10's editing room and hit the 'quick censor' button! Can't have anything bad said about their leader... or his brainwashed wife.

"Correlation is not causation" isn't, as you seem to assume, an all-purpose argument for dismissing empirical evidence. If, as you appear to concede, the correlation is real, you need to argue either that the causality is the opposite of that claimed or that there is some common cause.

In the current context, that is, you need to argue either that the corrupt nature of the governments in question led them to espouse economic liberalism (which seems implausible) or that times favorable to political corruption are also favorable to economic liberalism. Maybe you can develop something along these lines without weakening the case for economic liberalism - I'll wait and see.

Or, you can argue that it's just a chance correlation. What you can't do with any credibility is say that you are going to stick to the results of a priori reasoning regardless of the empirical evidence.

Local Government is the level of government closest to the people. State and Federal politicians represent constituencies which are so large, it's at the expense of grassroots' representation. Aidan McLindon's plan to re-establish Queensland's Upper House - which was abolished in 1922 - would require a referendum of the people. According to a poll in today's Courier Mail, the majority of people want state governments abolished. It all pie in the sky, just like labor's policy in the 1970s to abolish the Senate. It would never be approved in a referendum. That's why it was scrapped from the labor party's national policy.

Come off it Paul! Out come the self-serving politicians like Labor's Paul Tully. Get rid of local government. Save the state billions. Your party is trying to spend their way out of debt. Doesn't make sense.
